Thomas A.M. Lazzarini, MD was born in Colorado but considers Southern California home after his family moved west to Los Angeles County when he was a small child.
He received his B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale College. He
then returned to Yale after a stint in rural Borneo Indonesia studying the impact of
illegally logging on to human health to complete his MD. He moved to Miami for his ophthalmology residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute where he stayed on for vitreoretinal fellowship and then served as the Chief Resident and Director of Ocular Trauma.
Dr. Lazzarini has published peer-reviewed articles on the evaluation of diabetic retinopathy, emergency ophthalmic care, and infectious endophthalmitis, among other topics.
During his fellowship, Dr. Lazzarini won the surgical video competition at a national vitreoretinal surgery meeting.
In his free time, Dr. Lazzarini delights in his two young children and enjoys several hobbies including hiking, gardening, traveling, and surfing.
Dr. Lazzarini is available for consultation and treatment in all areas of medical and surgical vitreo-retinal disease. His interests include the management of macular degeneration, macular holes and pucker, retinal detachments, and diabetic retinopathy. He is versed in the most recent technological advances in vitreo-retinal surgery.
